Hi,

I have read the FAQ entry in regard to the problem at http://www.starburnsoftware.com/support/starburn-sdk/faq#q_52

I have copied StarOpen.sys to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and also to C:\WINDOWS\system32 just to be sure. I also imported the registry key mentioned on the website.

Still, no devices are found on my WinXP 32 bit test system under a limited user account (admin works fine).

After booting the system, an event log entry appears: "The service "StarOpen" could not be started: The specified driver is invalid." (translated from German).

Code:
Ereignistyp:   Fehler
Ereignisquelle:   Service Control Manager
Ereigniskategorie:   Keine
Ereigniskennung:   7000
Datum:      23.04.2011
Zeit:      17:20:06
Benutzer:      Nicht zutreffend
Computer:   VM-XPPRO
Beschreibung:
Der Dienst "StarOpen" wurde aufgrund folgenden Fehlers nicht gestartet:
Der angegebene Treiber ist ungültig.

What am I doing wrong?

Copied 64-bit driver into 32-bit OS?

*Sigh* - I was pretty sure that I didn't make such a mistake. I did, however, apparently switch the 32bit and 64bit flags in the installer script. Thanks, seems to work now ;)

Another question btw: Is there no more "official" way to install these drivers other than copying files into the system directory? Like some kind of WINAPI function for installing device drivers (which might have complained about my invalid actions immediately)?

LOL

I've expected this...

This way is legacy, we've officially switched to SPTD as a main transport for SCSI commands. We would however consider re-writing StarOpen as WDF driver and shipping it with install script (mini-setup) to make install easy and skip reboot on registry update.
