You cannot in easy way. The whole idea behind them is to be as native as physical drives are (including emulating rotation speed and having gaps and bad blocks seek delays implemented). Or game copy protection systems would render them (emulators) useless.

So for StarPort which does not hide itself you can do it by SCSI inquiry name. For Alcohol & Daemon Tools - NO WAY EVER.

I don't think so... Any CD-ROM or DVD-ROM or BD-ROM is not writable.
