Here's another one: My app has only one speed, Nero has multiple speeds available: http://forum.cdburnerxp.se/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10927

Sure that there is not something wrong on your side?

Hello,

We have checked the Roxio software! It displays the same values of supported speeds as the StarBurnX!! ( for the same disc )!! You will get the different values of supported speeds for the different disc vendors !!!!

Regards,

Dmitry!!

Hello Again!!

The second device is the CD ONLY device ( as I can see on the customer screen shots)!! Your customer putted the DVD disc into the CD DRIVE!! What values of speed we should return??!! In case the inserted disc is not supported the StarBurnX will return the "Max" speed for current drive!!

Regards,

Dmitry!!

Hello,

1) Send the log file to us!

2) Check the latest firmware for this device: http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/firmware/FWdownload/FWDownload.asp?product_code=&language_code=&SearchMode=MODELSEARCH&SearchWord=sh-s223c&image1.x=40&image1.y=7

3) Try to test this issue with SPTD transport;

Regards,

Dmitry

Got a different log file now.

Speeds shown: 16x 24x 32x 40x 48x
Speeds expected: 4x 8x 16x 24x 32x 40x 48x

The user says 16x causes errors sometimes, and he has successfully burned 8x and 4x speed discs, but doesn't get the option burning with such a low speed. Can the lower speeds be added?

The drive does not allow to set speeds below 16x. Actually it DOES but reports back it will use 16x. What you can do - make "relaxed" mode allowing to select ALL speeds below upper told one. And actually try setting the one user points to (if he's sure). And burn at it and tell in the log REPORTED back speed. It may work if device has something broken (burns @ one speeds and says back other). But we cannot detect it programmatically - it's only burn time to compare vs. expected value.

So there is no code in StarBurn that checks if the speed I set is below the minimum supported speed and thus makes my actions useless?

Well, I guess I need to offer more speeds than report in this case, but I get the impression that this CD burning business is more guesswork than anything else ;)

We allow you to set burning speed and query drive what he had accepted and report back to you. We don't check for you for not supplying some bogus value.

I don't think so. It's definitely broken device. Flashing new firmware may fix it.

How does the "reporting back" work?

1) You set speed
2) You get current speed

How do I get "current speed"? Don't see such a property in StarBurnX.

I'll ask Dima to contribute as you're not interested in core API calls.

Hello,

You should check the WriteSpeed/ReadSpeed property of DriveInfo object ( for the specific Drive)!

Regards,

Dmitry
