 Post subject: no drives showing?!
PostPosted: Sat Feb 12, 2005 12:48 am
I was very interested when I came accross your StarBurn SDK...it sounded just like what I was looking for!
But I have a problem.....now I must confess I am new to this particular field of coding, I have written plenty of apps in visual c++ but this was going to be my first attempt at a recording tool. Anyway, to my problem...
I've downloaded the demo sdk and the mfc sample, which I have built and executed sucessfully. The problem I have is there are no drives listed in the drive list box :cry: I have latest ASPI installed and all my recording apps work fine. I have 2 drives - one CDRW - AOPEN CRW5232 and a DVD-RW - NEC ND-3520A. Are these drives simply incompatible or am I totally missing something??
Running on WinXP in case it helps.
Hope you have a solution for me as I'd hate to find this great sdk only to find I can't use it :cry:

Would you please run FindDevice console sample from SDK and send us:

1) Application output

2) Debug log (check archives of this forum on now to enable extended logging)

This would help us a lot to sort your issue out.

P.S. Of course drives are compatible, the same for the OS. BTW, do you have Admin rights on your machine?

Thank you!

Well, it's good news :lol:
The FindDevice application found all of my drives without problem so it seems I can continue my project with this great sdk.
Out of curiosity though - why didn't the mfc sample find any of my drives....and will I need to run the FindDevice funtion with my application to detect the drives?
Here is the logfile even though it's probably not needed anymore :arrow:

I guess it's b/s ASPI-to-SPTI wrapper file WnASPI32.dll was missing from the MFC sample binary application directory. Could you check this out?

OK, Alex would check this issue out after weekend. In any case currently we're working on both MFC (Visual C++) and VCL (Delphi) GUI samples so current MFC sample would be dumped in 2-3 weeks or so :-)

Thanks for the help you've provided so far :)
I have all drives listed in dropdown box which is working fine, but I would like to add the drive letter to each drive but I noticed there seems to be a problem with getting the drive letter using StarBurn_GetDeviceNameByDeviceAddress, I set up a log file and it reports this error when trying to get drive letter:
StarBurn_GetDeviceNameByDeviceAddress() failed, exception 17 ( 0x11 )
Is there a way I can fix this?

When you're running our console sample (already mentioned FindDevice) do you have drive letters shown by our code?

also, if it's of any help this is what the StarBurn.log file says about it:

CStarBurn:StarBurn_GetDeviceNameByDeviceAddress(): l__pfn__SendASPI32Command( SC_GET_SYMBOLIC_NAME ) for port ID 0 and target ID 0 failed with ASPI status 0x80!!!

Problem solved :lol:
I needed to place a copy of WnASPI32.dll in the debug directory of my project but I had put it in the root directory of my project with StarBurn.dll

I'll figure all this out.....eventually :lol: :P
