DVD Speeds

How do I get the DVD write speeds from a Pioneer A09(109) burner? I know the specifications for the drive(upto 16x burn on DVD+-R) but the GetSpeed function only returns a maximum write speed of 7MB. 16X burning for a DVD is 16X1385KB(ie ~22MB) is it not?

Do you really have true 16X DVD-R media inserted? API call would return speed for COMBINATION of the "drive + inserted media". 7MB seems to be 4X DVD-R "boosted" to 6X. What's written on the DVD-R disc itself?
