#1 Burning Software

I used graddisc.exe to create an MDS image of a music CD. I then tried to use SessionAtOnceRawRawPW to burn a copy of that MDS image. I got the above error. Below is the log file of it. Just so you know I have Nero installed and I'm running XP Pro. I used the grabdisc.exe and SessionAtOnceRawRawPW.exe that came in the SDK(not recompiled). To get the log I used the debug version of SessionAtOnce...

Also, I'm able to burn ISO images(created using buildimage.exe) using DiscAtOnceFromFile,SessionAtOnceFromFile,SessionAtOnceFromFileEx and TrackAtOnceFromFile. I also had Alcohol 120% installed a while ago but uninstalled it.

Almost forgot. I'm using a Sony VGN-S360 laptop and a Cypress AT2LP USB to IDE adapter to connect to the Plextor 740a drive

I saw a similar error happening with another user but that thread was 3 pages long and was concerning DVDs so I opened this one. Hope that was ok.

It happens this drive (PLEXTOR 740A) does not support RAW SAO we burn in. Would you please check - does f.e. Alcohol supports burning to this device in RAW SAO mode?

P.S. Flashing new firmware also can help (you seems to use original one 1.0) but chances are quite low...

If firmware swap woud not help I think getting another drive is the only solution. Sorry for this!

Thats fine(We are still deciding on our units shipping drive) Do you know if the Plextor 716(a) can do SAO RAW? If not what drive do you recommend? Also I assume this means to burn MDS files you must use SAO Raw only?

That's bad... I'll get the unit to find out why Alcohol burns in RAW SAO + SUB and StarBurn does not.

Please don't bother. I did some experimenting myself. The exact drive model I have is PX-740A. I installed Alcohol 120%(trial version). I then ran test burns in all modes supported(DAO/SAO,RAW SAO, RAW SAO + SUB, and RAW DAO). All modes worked EXCEPT RAW SAO + SUB. SO this drive does not support RAO SAO + SUB at all.
Can you tell me how I can use RAW SAO without SUB or RAW DAO to burn mds IMAGES?

This means device is broken and it's RAW SAO + SUB support is missing.

Now, we support only RAW SAO + SUB for raw images so if device does not work we're out of luck.

Ok. How about this then. What drive do you recommend for best burning speeds and has all the write mode capabilities? We've been using Plextor because they are ussually the best(or close to it). I specifically need one that I can write MDS images with starburn.

I've already answered this question: PIONEER and NEC.

Plextor does not produce own hardware any more - just rebrand NEC (?) with own firmwares (quite buggy I need to admit).

And StarBurn is far from the best 1:1 copy engine. Just was never designed for this. Try to grab something like Padus Foundation Classes.

Yes, I saw that. I just ment did you have a specific PIONEER or NEC drive in mind. I need to be sure the drive we get can use RAW SAO + SUB. If any NEC drive will work(with NEC firmware) then I'll go get whatever NEC drive Plextor is using since I know it's got the other capabilities I want.

Yes. I've looked at a preview of the ND-4550 but can't find it for sale anywhere. Is the ND-3550A(previous model) also SAO RAW + SUB capable? The only problem I have with the pioneer is the max 40X CD burning speed.
