#1 Burning Software

I've got his tool and would give a try at 3-4 PCs today. Each has 3-4 drives and at least dual boot into different OSes from MS. Please give me today and tomorrow.

OK, I've experimented with this software. First of all it's not working. I cannot make it work with my nVidia-based machine - wrong parameters passing. So I write own LockUnLock application as StarBurn sample And I've verified everything. In a nutshell: it's *Windows* who sends UNLOCK to the drive and nobady else. So your friend who told everything is working was just inaccurate - he did not try to read the media with say Explorer. I've used blank CD-R, Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 Server (both 32-bit and 64-bit variatns). Different drives (more then 20) and some drives cross-connected between XP and 2003. Here is BusHound log. It's CLEAR that Windows sends PREVENT_ALLOW_MEDIA_REMOVAL to the drive in attempt to read it. So I think we can do nothing with this except write SCSI filter BLOCKING access to the drive.

And the log (started immediately after drive was locked and app exits). These all are Windows initiated commands:

Thanks for trying all this. I was suspicious that the guy on the Forum wasn't seeing the problem, there isn't much that could affect this.....

It sounds like the fix might be a big job. If you have Microsoft support, it might be worth contacting them first and seeing if this is a known issue with a workaround/fix before you delve into the code too deeply! If we're lucky, it might simply be a registry setting (though I wouldn't hold my breath on that!)

Nope. Looks like this stuff is hardcoded into CDROM class driver.

Quick check to see if this locking issue is expected to remain the same for the foreseeable future.

I also have observed that StarBurn_CdvdBurnerGrabber_Lock() doesn't seem to do anything. My burnerGrabber object is persistent over all the time I wish locking to occur.

The lock function does work, but as soon as you access the drive, whether through the StarBurn API or via standard MS functions/commands, the lock is removed.

For us, we control all access to the drive, so I simply keep reissuing the lock periodically or if the drive is accessed.

Not perfect, but it's a workaround.

Damn Windows! For it "don't share" does not mean anything at all Hold on, Deamon Tools 4.x is released already, so quite soon there would be proper way to get fully EXCLUSIVE access to the drive for StarBurn users. Would get you updated when we'll get a deal with DT team. Thanks!

This is just a quick follow-up to this locking problem. I have checked the release notes on the any of the releases since we first spoke about this problem.

Have it been resolved? You mentioned using a SCSI filter from a third-party - did you go down this path?

No problems if not, but if you did, I'll certainly integrate that release into our product!

No we did not use any filter as we don't want to make our customers systems BSOD in case of conflicts even with built-in Roxio drivers in XP+ OSes.
