We're using different write modes with Nero for +RW media. So for StarBurn we need to format it before writing first N sectors with zeros (what Nero actually does). That's why there's such a difference in the speed of operation. We may change it, however there are much more important tasks pending

If it's a limitation of the SDK I can live with it, but it seems odd that other programs can do the same thing so much quicker.
