StarOpen has nothing to do with the actual burning itself. It only opens device in kernel mode for StarBurn... For now we do not control book type at all - all media would have existing book type settings drive keeps inside itself. Some upcoming StarBurn release would have book type management code however. For now you can use external tool (like say Nero) to set it once and forever.

You're probably getting tired of me by now, but I found another problem. When using the StarOpen.sys driver and burning a Video DVD the resulting disk has a BookType of DVD+RW, which makes it so some DVD players do not recognize it and Windows recognizes it as a data disk. However if I uninstall StarOpen.sys and burn the exact same DVD again, it then has the correct BookType of DVD-ROM which allows it to be recognized by all DVD players and by Windows as a Video DVD.
I like using StarOpen as it prevents 3rd party apps form interrupting the drive while burning, etc.. and causing problems. But the primary goal of this program is to burn Video DVDs so I need them to be compatible with standalone players.
