Hi,
I have been using starburn for a while now and it seems to work fine for most things :-)
But ... I need to create a bootable XP CD from my master CD that has been "slipstreamed" with SP2. I am using a CD bootsector that is known to work under the likes of **** and other tools but when I try to boot the CD I get the error message "CD BOOT FAILED - CODE 4" (or words to that effect).

I gather that the reason is probably that I havent turned off "emulation" - but there doesnt seem to be an option in STARBURN to do this.

Am I right about the cause?? and is there a way around this - or do I have to revert to the free version of **** that came with the writer to achieve this??

TIA
Bob

Hello,

Please do next steps:

1)Delete log file "Rocket Division Software\StarBurn\Wizards\Logs\StarBurn.log"

2)Rewrite CD-RW disc with your data and boot image.

3) Send to me new file "Rocket Division Software\StarBurn\Wizards\Logs\StarBurn.log".

4) And send to me your boot image.

With this data we will try to detect problem.

The SDK clearly supports this since I believe the BARTPE package uses the SDK to burn its bootable CDs and they work OK with the same boot sector image.

We know this! We need to pinpoint an issue and fix the bug. So would you please do what you've been kindly asked to do. Thank you very much!

Image which you sent me not valid.
You can try to burn this boot image by Nero and you will get same results.

Interesting, because I have just created bootable CDs using both the Nero and ImgBurn packages using the same image file and they both worked perfectly!!!

I'll mail you the boot image files again - just in case they got corrupted.

It can be machine BIOS dependent issue as well. Let's take a closer look.

Would you please not e-mail us anything rather please put them zipped on ftp. If you don't have own one please let us know and we'll provide you with a link and account access to our one.

Thanks!

Hmmm ... I doubt if its a BIOS thing ... the CDs worked on 3 very different PCs.

I dont have access to an FTP account ... if you need the zip file please provide me with your ftp site
TIA

It's 4 sectors Vs. 1 sector load issue. SDK allows to control this parameter, Burner itself - does not. That's the problem... Andew is exporting this into the UI and will put updated version on the site soon.

P.S. Nero does not calculate number of sectors and also has "1" as default that's why it did not worked.

Yes - when I tried Nero I followed a proceedure that specified 4 ... it was the same for ImgBurn.

The revised "bootable" dialog on the "burn data" wizard to allow the specification of the sector count seems to work well :-)

Can I suggest that you add the same options to the "build image" wizard - I'm sure other people would like the options to be there as well.
