Hello, Florian

You may fill your combobox with all possible ( for CD, DVD or BD discs ) R/W speeds in case 'no disc in the drive'.

Dmitry

If I know that a CD is inserted, why should I list Blu-Ray speeds? I only want to list the speeds that make sense.

Florian,

If you know the type of inserted disc you should call the SupportedWriteSpeeds property and list the speeds that make sense for current disc!:) If disc is absent ( or is unknown ) you may fill your combobox with all possible ( for CD, DVD or BD discs - as you wish ) R/W speeds.

Regards,

Dmitry

SupportedWriteSpeeds does not contain all the speeds, even though the disc is neither absent nor unknown. So I can't do that.

Florian,

I don't understand why do you need to list all possible speeds for CD ( for example ) if only 2x,4x and 6x can be used (for example)!?

None/Unknw Disc: 2x
4x
6x
...
52x
Known disc type:
1) 2x
10x
12x

2) 2x
4x
6x
10x
12x
14x
...
52x

I don't actually want that.

In this scenario, I want 2x, 4x and 6x, but SupportedWriteSpeeds will only give me 6x. Makes sense now?
Also, remember that this is only a problem when the inserted disc is CD-ROM and not CD-R.

Hmm, interesting, I suppose the SupportedWriteSpeeds function should return an empty list of speeds for CD-ROM media because this media is READ-ONLY media. We will check it.

I am testing Starburn SDK (StarburnX12, release with file read fix 25.04.2011) and along side I have installed StarBurn software 12r10 (0x 20091021). When using SDK in my own program I get most times the maximum write speed. However StarBurn software could report many lower write speeds. Does any one else experience this..
Can anyone give an explanation?

On a related note, in regard to burning audio discs, I got the following user request:

Quote:
I just realized the slowest speed depends on the type of CD-R. When I use a standard Memorex (52X, 700 MB) disc, I can go as slow as 16X (other choices are 48X, 40X, 32X and 24X). When I use a Sony CD-R Audio disc I can go as slow as 8X (the only other choice is 16X).

However, I'd like to go slower (2X or 4X) to ensure the best musical quality. Is there any way to do this?

So: Why the differences? Would lower speeds be possible?

Hello,

"I'd like to go slower (2X or 4X) to ensure the best musical quality. Is there any way to do this?" - I guess there is No Way! Generally speaking we are trying to set-up all possible speed values in order to detect which speeds are supported! As the x2 speed is not reported - speed is not supported ( for given DISC - DEVICE ).

Dmitry

OK, and then what if he says the following?
Quote:
Previously, I used Roxio Creator on this computer and was able to get to 1X and 2X. (I uninstalled that software because of conflicts.)
