Is it possible to perform a disk readability analysis on a DVD to come up with an idea of it will be playable or not?

If you want just read the DVD media - use ReadCooked(...) applied to the whole disc surface. If you want to be sure DVD is DVD-Video compatible - use PHILIPS DVD-Video verifier test suite.
