So my CD/DVD burner died in my laptop today...14 years and some 20 different ROM Drives and I've never seen this happen before. No problems registering on the computer, it just wont "see" any discs anymore, so I'm looking for a new one. Problem I'm facing is it seems a lot of laptop drives being sold don't advertise the write modes. I found http://www.slidirect.com/product22-167.html, and I feel it is the best replacement for my particular drive and laptop...Presario 3110CA (3000 series) and a UJ-850 CD/DVD Drive. I have contacted quite a few people selling this drive, and none of them seem to know. I went to Panasonic, and they don't have it on their site. I'm hoping someone here can tell me if it has TAO, SAO, DAO, and DAO Raw write modes.

No idea. Try surfing dedicated forums like cdrinfo.com and others. And I'd personally recommend to grab modern Blu-ray burner in external USB enclosure.

OK thanks. I decided to do my search using different terms and I'm getting a little better results. My question now is what are these writing modes?

Fixed Packet
Multi-session
Packet Writing
Variable Packet

Mainly are any of them another term for DAO Raw?

All these terms are not related to each other. Like "cow", "wood", "airplane" and "cocaine".
