When I'm quick erasing DVD+RW in StarBurn SDK sample application time required is much longer than expected. "Disc eraser" application gives me ~280 seconds estimation and this estimation is nearly right - quick erase takes nearly few minutes. In other thread in this forum (http://www.rocketdivision.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1434) you are saying that quick erase of DVD+RW disk should be nearly instant. Other applications (ImgBurn, Gear.WRKS based and Nero) are erasing as expected - in few seconds. We can reproduce this problem on all of our development machines (XP, Vista 32/64 bit with various drives). Is there something that changed in current version of StarBurn SDK from the time previous post was sent?

W/o the logs I don't have any clue what the problem is.

Which erase type should I use for really fast erase of DVD+RW?

ERASE_TYPE_BLANK_DISC_FULL = 0, // Completely erase the rewritable disc
ERASE_TYPE_BLANK_DISC_FAST, // Erase only TOC, PMA and first track lead in on the rewritable disc
ERASE_TYPE_BLANK_TRACK, // Erase track only
ERASE_TYPE_UNRESERVE_TRACK, // Unreserve track that was reserved before
ERASE_TYPE_BLANK_TRACK_TAIL, // Erase track tail
ERASE_TYPE_UNCLOSE_LAST_SESSION, // Unclose last closed session
ERASE_TYPE_BLANK_SESSION // Erase last session

Here are attached screenshot of Disc Erase application and respective log (erasing ended on ~80% of estimated time).

It does full format unit code for some reason. Was this disc acually written ever before?

Yes, I'm using this disc for debugging purposes. Last time it was fully formated this afternoon. But now I realized that when I set ImgBurn to require properly formatted disc it ask me to do full erase instead of quick. Weird.

ImgBurn does not do any erase in 2 seconds. It simply overwrites file system header and that's all it does.

OK, bud didn't you refer to same "erase" in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1434

Quote:
... for DVD+RW media it's only 64-128KB written (read - will return nearly immediately) ...

In other words: how can I do "nearly immediately" returning erase of DVD+RW using StarBurn SDK?

How can I force fast erase? I'm already calling StarBurn_CdvdBurnerGrabber_Blank(...) with ERASE_TYPE_BLANK_DISC_FAST.

We'll add extra parameter "force fast erase" with V12. So when disc will pretend it was not written (your case) you'll be able to dumb zero write only header of it.

Great. Do you now time-frame for releasing v12? We are targeting release of our product at the end of September.

We don't have release date yet. In the worst case we'll mangle another RC for you.
