#1 Burning Software

Hello,

I'm using your Burnin API (Version 6.6.30) on a software (developed with Borland Delphi 7) that runs under Windows Vista. Sometimes on some configurations the session of the created DVD is not closed. So the media is unreadable until you close the session.

The issue is that the StarBurn_CdvdBurnerGrabber_CloseSession call returns successfully, so I cannot handle this error in my software as it still returns EN_SUCCESS even if not correctly done.

Do you have any idea?
I can send you the log file of the burnin process if needed.

1) I don't see any problem in the log. Also it looks like verification process completed w/o any problem. What *exactly* is wrong with the recorded disc?

2) StopPlayScan(...) always fail for DVD media. It's OK.

In fact after the burnin process my application checks if the media has been correctly burned (a CRC check on each files is compared from the source files). But in this case it can't read the media. It's seen as blank.

If I check the media in a commercial burnin application like Nero it indicates that the session on the media is not closed. If I close the session using Nero the media is ok and readable.

So it's why I suspected the CloseSession to not work as expected.

Do you have any idea on what could be wrong?

3) Can you try TrackAtOnceFromFile.exe C sample to reproduce this situation?

4) Does it happen ALWAYS with this drive and this media?

Here are the answers to your questions:

1) At the end of the burnin process, I try a StopPlayScan (that works sometime) to avoid ejecting the media, if it fails I eject the drive, wait and reload it and next start the crc check of the media. So I've got an eject/load sequence.

2) On some not closed DVDs I have tried to close them with the CloseSession, but it still exiting w/ sucess, but the DVD remains not closed.

3) I have made an ISO file of a successfully burned DVD and used the TrackAtOnceFromFile sample with this image and seen no error, with 2 different kind of media, but as this seems to be really random I’m not sure we can keep this test as a reference.

4) Unfortunately this is really random, as said I've successfully burned the DVD on a system where it previously failed without changing anything. And it appears randomly on others systems (different hardware, drives and media).

So it's why it's not easy. What I plan to do is as the CloseSession method returns successfully even if not closed, I will add always a check of the session status (really closed or not), currently I just take into consideration the return of this call that seems to not be enough accurate.

Do you think it could come from an incompatibility between drives and media (knowing that it happens on several brands of both...)? From the Vista environment? Can I see anything on a bad media (not closed) that could help you to understand?

1) Everything is clear now, you're doing correct things.

2) I need the log and some track layout info (Nero reports it) from such a disc with session not closed. Even with radon burns you should have such a disc sooner or later.

3) Grab at least such an info: a) burner model b) media type c) software installed and let is know it.

4) I'd like to see your software. Maybe there are some reaces between threads or something like this.

If the problem happens with different media and burner types other users should hit such a situation. But they don't. And this is strange. And I want to sort this issue out.
